Mangaluru, Nov 12: In protest against the murder of a youth at BC Road on Thursday November 12 and also the violence and death of a VHP leader in Madikeri on Tipu Jayanti on November 10, the district Bajrang Dal and VHP have called for a complete bandh on Friday November 13.
Earlier in the evening, the VHP and Bajrang Dal had announced that there would be no bandh, but only protests in various places from 11 am to 12 noon. However, after the late evening developments near BC Road, Bantwal, where a youth identified as Harish was stabbed to death, the Bajrang Dal and VHP decided to go for a full-fledged bandh, said Bajrang Dal convenor Sharan Pumpwell, speaking to daijiworld.
Meanwhile, a KSRTC bus was set on fire by miscreants at Nellikatte in Puttur. Fire service arrived at the spot and managed to douse the flames. Tyres were burnt in some parts, sources said
Anticipating trouble, the district administration on the orders of the DGP has imposed section 144 throughout the district for the next three days, starting November 13. Holiday has also been declared for schools and colleges throughout the district.
Speaking to daijiworld, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said that security has been beefed up in the district to prevent untoward incidents, and as precautionary measure, 1,000 additional police personnel including RAF and police force from north Karnataka have been called.
"These measures have been taken in view of the safety of the district," the DC said, while appealing to citizens to keep calm and maintain peace and order.
