Puttur, Nov 13: The district bandh called by VHP and Bajrang Dal on Friday November 13 was marred by at least two incidents of violence in Puttur.
A youth identified as Mohammed Haris (21) was attacked by miscreants at Golithottu, and in another incident, reported at Savanur, clashes erupted over non-closure of a shop and a cop was injured in the resultant stone-pelting.
It is said that Mohammed Haris was returning with his friend Ashraf after offering Friday prayers at the local mosque. Ashraf was riding while Haris was sitting pillion.
Even as they were riding, two persons passed by them in a bike and attacked Haris with a machete before speeding away, sources said.
The injured Haris was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.
His family sources said that Haris recognized the persons who attacked him, but has not named them yet.
In another incident, Sampya sub-inspector Ravi was injured after clashes erupted in Savanur.
Sources said that while all the shops were closed due to bandh, one of the locals refused to down the shutters of his shop. A group approached him and demanded that he shut his shop, and soon, verbal arguments turned into a fight. The group, angered by the shopkeeper's non-cooperation, began pelting stones at the shop, it is learnt.
The police intevened and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the mob. Stones were also pelted a police jeep and SI Ravi sustained injuries.
