Kundapur: Engineering student ends life by jumping into well

Kundapur, Nov 16: An engineering student in Shankaranarayana police station limits here has committed suicide by jumping into a well on Monday, November 16.

The deceased girl has been identified as Amitha (18) from Janata Colony in Shankaranarayana. She was the student of an engineering college in Bantwal.

As Amitha had holiday on Saturday, she had come to her house in Shankaranarayana from Bantwal. When the parents came to wake her up on Monday morning, she was missing. When searched, her dead body was found floating in the well in the neighbourhood.

It is said that Amitha did not like to go to the college. She complained to the family people that she felt engineering wasdifficult for her to study. 

A police case stands registered at Shankaranarayana police station.

    Quite unfortunate.If engineering is difficult she would have shifted to other suitable courses.Ending her life is really a hasty decision.

    Feel very sad to know about the loss of precious life.Entry into engineering college is not easy that we think in this case.She is from rural area.Passing out second P.U(science) and CET is not easy task.She got this seat on merit that means she had every potential to pass B.E.
    Engineering syllabus consists of load of mathematics specially on calculus which is purely logical mathematics.Student find it hard if the tutor is not competant.
    Similar situation with major theory subject also where, lot of derivation and calculations to be done.Mostly beginer find it hard to cop up,but little bit of hard work and patience will change the situation.
    Need of the hour is every engineering college must conduct councelling for first year students to over come exam fear and stress.
    What a loss of great potential.
    My sympathy with her family.

    Nowadays most parents want their wards to take up either engg or medicine, and over and above that the entry level for engg colleges is made so low that any TDH student is given admission as there is heavy oversupply of engg. seats in such a small region!! Forcing a student to take a subject in which she has no aptitude is fraught with risks like what has happened because it is like pushing her to the wall!!

    Parents should understand that besides engg there are so many other professions where students can excel and make a good career!! The times of opting only for engg. or medicine are gone, so many creative professions can make you bigger than an engineer!!

    Here I had been to a college which conducts BPharm courses and was shocked to see that they admit any and every student just on the basis of 45% pass marks without any aptitude test etc., and most of the students I found there were from vernacular medium, it is very difficult to comprehend how they manage to pass out such a tough course in the first attempt!! But for the same BPharm in Mumbai only those who have scored more than 90% may get a seat as the competition is so high and quality of colleges is superlative!! Jai Mangluru, Jai Hind!!

    Can't blame parents here. There must be a reason for insisting for her education. What stupid decision to end her life for that reason ? today's youth are restless and not ready to accept any challenges on their way...
