US sends aircraft carrier to Middle East amid intensifying anti-IS campaign

Washington, Nov 17 (IANS): The Pentagon announced on Monday the USs Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier left for the Middle East in the latest deployment to assist the counterterrorism campaign in the region.

The deployment came just days after militants from the extremist group the Islamic State carried out well-coordinated attacks in French capital of Paris which killed at least 129 and wounded more than 350.

However, according to a statement by the US Navy, the deployment was planned long prior to the attacks.

"The current deployment is part of an on-going rotation of forward-deployed forces to support maritime security operations in the U.S. 6th and 5th Fleet areas of operation," said the statement.

According to the US daily The Hill, which mainly covers news of the US Congress, Truman would join the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, whose departure was scheduled on November 18, in the Persian Gulf region to assist the campaign against the IS in Iraq and Syria.

Truman's predecessor, the USS Theodore Roosevelt left the Persian Gulf last month and was responsible for 1,812 combat sorties totaling 10,618 combat flight hours in the US-led anti-IS campaign, according to data from the U.S. Navy Institute.

Truman has a crew of about 3,000, and with the embarked air wing and staffs, the number rises to about 5,000.

    Hi Maurice,

We were (brothers, sisters & fly)almost 20 members and one of my sisters was carrying 7 months.
We suffered a bit but everything went on well and with good ending.
I owe my gratitude to God and lot's of people who prayed and wished us safe return to Mangalore. It was big story but we did not go through desert. Reached Bhagdad Airport and took a flight to Amman and to Bombay. God is merciful.

    Rudolf,
    Rightly said.
The only guy (used be called then living devil) who could have controlled such situation mercilessly was Saddam Hussain. Unluckily, Western countries and Arab world wanted to finish him because of his ego and unknown desires to expand his Kingdom and all the worms (IS) came out and are spreading beyond control.
Who is helping whom but all are crying to disintegrate/destroy them and let peace prevail on this planet.

    Dear Flavian, Mangaluru/Kuwait,

It was a situation that Either Saddam Hussain would have become world leader or USA.

Ultimately Kuwait capture by Saddam Hussain prevented himself to become a world leader which costed his own life by surrendering to USA without firing a single shot at USA troops.

    Flavian,
Americans lured him saying 'it is not our view what ever Saddam does to Kuwait,' as he was deemed to be threat to Israel, because of Iraq's scud missiles. He was a decent, secular guy who did not hurt honest and who loved their country.
ISIS is created by the US to subdue Shiates in Iraq.
    I may have known you.

Saddam warned Kuwait many times about sideways oil drilling from kuwait through Iraq. So when these warnings were ignored by Kuwait ans as Saddam had no choice other than attacking Kuwait. Then Kuwait approached US for help and the US said to Kuwait that as long as you are in your soil and drilling oil sideways not a problem, which infact US was waiting for this opportunity and ultimately that led to Gulf war.So Saddam was just protecting his country and the US operated world media showed this entire picture to the world in a different way.

Bombing the left over rubble & killing poor innocent civilians in Syria is foolish. All the militants have migrated to Europe in the guise of refugees. France was just the beginning. In fact they have not even waited for citizenship and then show their true colours.

USA should not give human rights to terrorists.

They are making a big mistake.

They catch the terrorists and after a couple of years they release them.

USA should not chase ISIS just to vacate Syria.

They should should not chase them to another country to trouble there and also don't arrest them kill them instantly.

This ISIS should be wiped out of the world. It should not take long time for the U>S. and Allies to do so unitedly, one after another tons and tons of bombs and should be shelled over Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and all deadly places of their hideouts. Best of Luck.
Then only only this Terrorist fear will be finished. Instead of daily fearing them, should give them tat for tat replies, and again for hundreds of years they should not pop up their heads.

It is not double standard my dear friend but it is imperialist act led by USA, UK, FRANCE with other European countries to expand their military base in Asian territory. The main reason is to control the oil industry. Although west Asia is producing highest oil in the world still today USA controls the price mechanism in the world market. Their ugly act started from invading Kuwait, Iraq, and many other Arabian countries against resolution of UNO. They always give wrong picture to world media. Now there is big shout for Paris assault but why media is silent when these countries continuously killing civilian people in Syria and made them world's largest refugees. These cunning act by imperialist countries to control the world economy is unjust and will be painfully written in the world history.

..It wont help..radicals spread all over the world, its no point of return, its going to worse..Not single country stable in ME or Asia incl., tiny Maldives..US/EU unnecessarily involving in this war & displacing people, welcoming immigrants and bringing terror to their Door step..its not their war, its a pure sectarian war of two regional power..let US/EU help their friends (who ever) indirectly..the direct involvement will disguises sectarian conflict instead projects it as crusader vs Jihadis..this is happened since IRAN/IRAQ war..but lesson not learnt..even Congress created a similar situation by involving ourselves directly in SRILANKA, which resulted in death of our PM..but we are fortunate enough LTTE terror didnt spread in INDIA..

Ramesh, rather than helping in eliminating LTTE, India must have supported them as they were the one who showed the world at one time that terrorism is not limited only to one religion as it was being called then as the mother of all terrorist organisations in the world .Though this organization had become a part of history now still I am greatly admiring them not because of their combat actions/strikes but in line with their dedication for the cause and the way they operating which was highly organised .Rather than crying every time on terrorist strikes sponsored by neighbouring country India must have supported and used LTTE for carrying out counter attack against Pakistan as it is very well known fact that that regardless the amount of missiles with increased range that India has been testing frequently and the massive defence procurement from all over the world Indian can’t/won’t use it as it requires guts like Isreal , China and North Korea .In my view in the present situation the fight against extremism can’t be won with conventional wars so the only solution is get rid of it is answering violence with only violence
Ramesh, agree that LTTE was the terrorist organisation ( in fact they were separatist ) but they were not radicals or religiously blindfolded .Moreover their majority targets were military/police and government personnel not the common people .Once they said even -we didn’t want to ram into pizza shop and kill pizza eating children
