The incident has its roots in the double murders which occurred inside the district prison here recently.
An undertrial named Faizal, speaking to media persons when being taken to the court after the murder, had expressed the opinion that jail officials were responsible for the double murders. He had alleged that jail staff Chakresh had supplied the knife in a blue packet to the accused, and that two other staff, Rajendra and Puttanna, had opened the cell of the accused first on the day of the incident.
Ayyappa was on duty as police escort to Faizal on this occasion, and hence, has been found guilty of allowing Faizal to speak to the media.
Two jail inmates, Madoor Isubu and his associate Ganesh Shetty, were murdered inside the jail on November 2, in what was termed by the police as a pre-planned attack.
