Mangaluru, Nov 19: Ground breaking ceremonies will be held for the construction of footpaths in nine areas and two concrete roads, along with the inauguration of Bejai market building and another road on Saturday November 21, informed Mangaluru mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred.
Addressing a press meet at MCC here on Thursday November 19, the mayor said that the above ceremonies will be held under the leadership of district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai and minister for urban development Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Mayor Jacintha briefed about the guddali puja to be held for the footpaths in the nine areas. They are:
1. Footpath on the left of the Kadri Kambala main road- from Bejai, Bhattagudde junction to Kadri New Road cross at a cost of Rs 46 lac.
2. Footpath on the left from Lalbagh junction and KSRTC junction at a cost of Rs 45 lac.
3. Footpath on the left from Kadri junction to Bunts Hostel junction at Rs 47.50 lac.
4. Drainage and footpath on right from Bunts Hostel circle to Jyoti circle at Rs 26 lac.
5. Drainage and footpath on the left from Bunts Hostel circle to Jyoti Circle at Rs 48.50 lac.
6. Footpath on the left from Anegundi cross till Bejai Museum at Rs 47.50 lac.
7. Footpath on the right on KSRTC-Kuntikana main road, from Kapikad 9th cross to Kottara cross at Rs 47 lac.
8. Footpath from A B Shetty circle to Subashnagar at Rs 48.75 lac.
9. Footpath on the left from railway station, Hampankatta to Nandigudda circle at Rs 47 lac.
"Guddali puja will be held for the construction of concrete road from Kankanady circle to Retreat House at a cost of Rs 200 lac. There are 21 trees along this stretch and we have got the clearance from the forest department to cut them down," the mayor said.
"Another guddali puja will be held at Kulur Ferry Road, for the construction of concrete road from Durgamahal junction to Kalikamba junction at a cost of Rs 1,100 lac. The concrete road from Durgamahal to Bokkapattana church, constructed at a cost of Rs 165 lac, will be inaugurated the same day," she added.
Regarding the new Bejai market building, the mayor said, "Bejai market building comprises six storeys and so far three floors have been completed. The construction cost so far has come upto Rs 396 lac. Totally 51 stalls have been built, and in basement plinth area there is parking facility, steps, ramp and driveway. The ground floor will have 10 commercial stalls, 3 fruit stalls, 5 vegetable shops and 1 flower shop and in first floor there will be 7 commercial shops, 2 dry fish shops and 12 fish vending shops, and two shops each for mutton, chicken, beef and pork and three other shops will be alloted."
Deputy mayor Purushotham, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Prakash Salian, Deepak Poojary, Harinath and others were present.
