Udupi, Nov 19: An accused and his family allegedly assaulted cops while he was being taken to court after arrest at Kedoor in Kota here on Thursday November 19. The police had arrested the accused after he failed to appear in the court.
Cops Ashok and Manjappa
Cops Ashok and Manjappa were allegedly assaulted by the accused, Ramesh Mogaveera and his family. Ramesh is facing charges of illegally felling trees and transporting wood.
Ramesh Mogaveera, a resident of Kedooru, was staying at his wife's house at Japthi. He was accused of illegally cutting trees in the past and it is said that Kundapur court had issued a warrant for his arrest. Kota policemen Ashok and Manjappa then arrested Ramesh Mogaveera in Japthi and brought him by auto rickshaw.
It is said that Ramesh tried to topple the auto rickshaw on the way, but after he failed in his attempt, he informed his family at Kedoor about his arrest. His mother and other family members then waylaid the auto at Kedoor, allegedly assaulted the policemen and told Ramesh to flee, before escaping from the spot themselves.
The assaulted policemen, who came back empty handed, have been admitted to Kundapur government hospital. In the scuffle, Ashok sustained injuries on his neck and hands.
Following the incident, two of Ramesh's relatives, identified as Ganesh and Srinivas, were arrested.
A case has been registered in Kota police station.
