Mangaluru, Nov 21: Thieves broke into a co-operative bank at Kinnigoli under Mulky police limits on the intervening night of Friday November 20 and Saturday November 21 and decamped with gold worth Rs 4.63 crore and Rs 3.55 lac in cash.

The thieves broke into SKG Goldsmith Industrial Co-operative Bank in Kinnigoli.

It is learnt that the thieves gained access to the top floor of the bank complex from an under-construction building located on the back. They then removed the sheets covering the roof and entered after breaking the shutters of the bank.

The thieves broke open the largest of the three lockers in the bank and looted the gold and cash. They also took away the CCTV recorders installed in the bank.

Sources said that there was no security guard and the thieves also cut the siren wiren and put off the main switch.

The theft came to light when the owner of shop who has a godown next to the bank came up and noticed the shutters of the bank broken.

As news of the theft spread, anxious customers came to the spot and expressed concerns over their gold and cash deposits. On receiving information, Pandeshwar police inspector Diwakar and Mulky SI Vaman Salian arrived and pacified the customers, saying that their gold was insured and they could come back on Monday with the relevant documents and claim insurance.

It is learnt that a matchbox with text printed in Tamil was found at the spot, giving rise to suspicions that persons from Tamil Nadu may be behind the crime. However, it is also suspected that the matchbox may have been deliberately planted to mislead the police.

Fingerprint experts and canine squad arrived at the spot, but due to rain overnight, their investigation was hindered.

DCP Shantaraju, DCP (crime) Sanjeeva Patil, ACP Madan Gaonkar, SI Vaman Salian and other police personnel visited the spot.

Mulky police have registered a case.

Kinnigoli is a small but growing city with many rich NRI and NRI's so the gold !!!.It is believed that people who broken this lockers in the bank not that of locals but believed to be the migrant workers of the construction site in the backyards !!!Now it is upto the investigation team and their efficiency i.e how and who !!!but one thing it is sure a lapse at bank security totally and believed that one is not safe enough in the bank too !!!

Most of the bank in India don't have proper security personal, no camera, no siren etc including nationalised bank.
They might deposit gold under our P.M gold deposit scheme because only 400 gm deposited after the scheme rolled out.
What the police is talking rubbish, there is no such documents bank will provide for customer for the gold deposit.
Feeling sad for people who deposited Gold in this CO-Op Society.
Because of all this robbery you can't wear gold , can't keep in home or in the bank. Better not to buy gold let the price comedown further .

Work of professional gang!! Total breakdown of law and order in DK!!

How come the police people, not connected with this unknown small pvt. bank, are pacifying people saying their gold is insured and asking the public to come and produce the relevant documents and claim insurance????

You feel that law and order should be like in Delhi under the supervision of Modi. I eel still law and order is much better in DK than Delhi or Mumbai. There are so many banks in Kinnigoli and people are still trusting small societies. May be you will find more black money here, police should investigate.

Good prospects for CCTV camera business, no need of any marketing or promotion...such incidents promote the cause and in near future compulsory CCTV applied all the the banks across the country
Like helmet, this will be another potential
Kinnigoli is small place, hope police nap these goondas before they digest some of their booty

The police should start a beat at night in all the towns where there are banks. The electronic security gadgets are proving worthless in such situation. Every society cannot have a watchman and even if they have he will be overpowered by the dacoits. The police protection should be strengthened since it is their duty to protect the life and property of the citizens.

Police should first talk to the staff in detail about new persons entertained by them recently...and give details if any in open mind which may help the investigating officials.I have full hope on our DK police and they will unearth the culprits at the earliest. When such big theft occurred at Chervattur br of Vijaya Bank in Kerala the earliest visitor to the site CM Ommen Chandy who spoke to police thereafter relating to probe.Which responsible politician done such job here? Are our ruling party reps of the dt do feel the theft is a blog on law and order situation in state?

Cross examin bulk amount gold loan borrowers in the bank.If such accounts are overdue and bank is contemplating recovery procedures through auction of pledged jewels, a discreet enquiry may shed/lead light towards crime.Modus operandi to hush up accounts with fake jewels pledged can also be a cause for the crime by vested interests...

Three crore worth gold from the co-op bank in Kinnigoli must have been 'stolen' to deposit in Modi's gold deposit scheme as the deposit in that scheme, till yesterday was only 400 grammes.
