Madhya Pradesh : BJP heads for defeat in Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha bypoll

MP, Nov 24 (HT) : The BJP appeared headed for a crushing defeat on Tuesday in the high-stakes by-elections for Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha seat in an electoral battle billed as a test for the ruling party’s popularity in a region ravaged by farm crisis.

Congress candidate and former Union minister Kantilal Bhuria had a massive lead of over 80,000 votes in the tribal-dominated seat, upsetting the saffron party’s calculations pinned on a sympathy wave for its candidate Nirmala Bhuria, whose father and sitting MP Dileep Singh Bhuria died recently.

A Congress victory in Ratlam will be seen seen as a shot in the arm for the ailing party that has been out of power in the state for over a decade now and an embarrassment for chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who led the BJP campaign from the front.

The Lok Sabha constituency includes the Petlawad region that saw a devastating explosion triggered by mining explosives that killed over 100 people in September this year.

The BJP also retained the Dewas assembly seat, where its candidate Gayatri Raje Puar won by over 30,000 votes.
A win will also mark a comeback for the Congress that had been defeated in its traditional stronghold after three decades in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The Ratlam-Jhabua seat turned into an electoral battlezone after Chouhan camped in the constituency for about a week and deputed a dozen ministers for mobilising party workers and convincing voters.

Observers said the election was fought mainly on development issues with local residents demanding a railway line and a proposed industrial corridor that has been shifted out of the region.

A defeat may also dent the image of three-term CM Chouhan, who is already battling the fall out of the multi-crore Vyapam examination and recruitment scandal. Several witnesses and people connected to the scam have died under mysterious circumstances in recent month, triggering charges that powerful politicians with connections to the government were behind the incident.

Hope Congress has learnt a lesson after the massive defeat in the last Loksaba in 18 months if not still they have 42 months to learn.Surely the price rise in 18 months will help the people to elect them to power provided they promise good governance, price control and communal harmony.

In the year 2001 Congress won the Assembly by election in Gujarath, but this assembly seat coming under the Loksabha constituency of then Home Minster L.K.Advani. Effect: BJP replaced CM Keshubahai Patel & installed then BJP Secretary Narendra Modi!!!!!!. Rest all History. If BJP won that By election Narendra Modi never came into limelight!!!!!!!

I appreciate your decision of supporting BJP party. Even I have no issue to support this party. The fringe groups who have tarnishing the image of my motherland irrespective of religion & party affiliations and our PM has not uttered a single word against them.

Today in Daiji, I read a wonderful news. In Ullal the Hindus and Muslims, both communities decided to live in peace and both have prayed together in the temple. There were few anti social elements destroyed one religious place and wanted riots. But both communities decided enough is enough. Let us live in peace. This is the beginning to live in peace and harmony.

Hope the divisive forces will vanish from our motherland and let justice, peace prevail.

1 The BJP's Khumukcham Joykishan defeated the Congress party's Jyotin Waikhom in Thangmeiband by over 1700 votes while his party colleague Thongam Biswajit Singh defeated the Congress's Bijoy Koingjam in Thongju.
2 The BJP now has two legislators in the 60-member Manipur Assembly. The Congress rules the state.
3 Lok Sabha by-election results for the Jhabua-Ratlam Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh come as a setback for the BJP. It has lost the seat to the Congress by over 80,000 votes. The Congress now has 45 members in the Lok Sabha.
4 The death of BJP leader and sitting MP Dilip Singh Bhuria in June prompted the bypoll in Jhabua Ratlam. The BJP fielded his daughter and sitting MLA from Petlawad, Nirmala Bhuria.
5 The Congress candidate, the former state unit president Kantilal Bhuria, makes a comeback in the by-election after losing the assembly election to Ms Bhuria exactly one year ago.
6 The Jhabua-Ratlam contest saw Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan hold 27 rallies in six days to ensure BJP' victory here. The BJP had won the Lok Sabha seat for the first time ever in 2014 when the BJP swept 27 of the 29 seats in the state.
7 In the Dewas assembly in Madhya Pradesh the BJP's Gayatri Raje Puar defeated the Congress's Jai Prakash Shastri. The seat had fallen vacant on the death of legislator Tukojirao Pawar, also of the BJP.

10 Diosstarness Jyndiang of the Hill State People's Democratic Party won Nongstoin in Meghalaya. Party chief Hoping Stone Lyngdoh who held the seat had died in September prompting the by-election.

Exactly correct. Probably, 1/3 of the Hindu population in India were
blinded by the Modimagic and bluffed by the systematic use of Hindu religious card. Now the 1/3 is alarmed already. 2/3 of the Hindu population holding hands with minorities of India make the situation totally alarming to the BJP now thus they are reaping the wild election harvest of failures everywhere. The vast majority of the Hindus now saw the BJP as a deadly political virus which can create massive intolerance and friction in India.

The BJP will be reduced to less than 100 seats if an election is taking place in India today.

I felt to name the BJP as "Bhart
Joker's Party" a few months after they came into power, and now the electorate could fully realize that reality.

The totally impossible promise giving has totally spoiled the name, besides the virus of discord they have sown is now fully watched with alarm by the electorate of India so they will have to change the name "BJP" into some other name for simple survival in the days ahead. A party of total mystery without any purpose-mandate and agenda, but simply delivering fake promises of aache din on the one hand, and indirectly laying the foundation of Nazism in India.

Winston Churchill defined communism as a " riddle wrapped up in an enigma". It is appropriate to classify the BJP in that category.
