Bengaluru: Rapists must be castrated - Eshwarappa

Bengaluru, Nov 27 (DHNS): Opposition leader in the Council K S Eshwarappa, known for his controversial statements, on Thursday yet again made some strong and unsavoury remarks, leading to embarrassing moments in the House.

Some of his suggestions were so extreme that the ruling party members took strong exception to them with the deputy chairman expunging the remarks.

Speaking on the law and order issue, Eshwarappa, demanding that rapists be castrated, also insisted that the Home department form a committee to make strong recommendations against those who commit atrocities against women and children. “Who will touch a girl who has been raped? Who will marry her?” he asked.

The BJP leader said such cases were being reported on a daily basis and until the department took a strong stand, those with deviant mindsets would continue to commit the crimes.

Attacking the judiciary for not giving justice to those who are wronged, he said, “It is because of the skewed laws that culprits are going scott-free.”

Citing an instance when he was forced to request a police officer to “teach a lesson” to a wife-beating man, Eshwarappa said the husband had been made to “toe the line” without even the wife filing a complaint. His suggestion prompted the ruling party members to object the same as it would lead to human rights violation. Eshwarappa, however, stuck to his stand and said the police must be given a free hand to deal with criminals in a harsh manner.
