Bengaluru: HC eases playground norms for new English schools

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Dec 4: Through an order, the state high court has given some concession in norms relating to size of playground required for new English medium schools stipulated by the department of education. A single judge bench presided over Justice Anand Byrareddy passed this order on Thursday December 3.

The bench concurred with the views expressed by the petitioner, Karnataka Private Schools Managements Federation, that it would be very difficult to find a playground by the side of the school building in the city. It asked the government to permit opening of new English medium school whenever the school management is able to find a suitable playground within a short distance from the school premises.

As per the present norms, for permitting opening of new schools from first to tenth standards, it should have a minimum two acres of land in rural areas, One and half acres in municipal and town panchayat limits, and one acre in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and other city corporation limits. The circular issued by the government in November last year also had stipulated that this land should be owned by the owners of the school, and that it should have been converted. The school managements had questioned this order through a petition in the high court.

Leave alone having a playground, many of the schools functioning in 'namma Bengaluru' (Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation limits), do not even have parking space either for their staff vehicles, or for their school bus (to allow their students to alight or board from the school bus).

As the adage goes, 'Money makes 'namma Bengaluru' go round'.

must be the money power. or else it's very much mandatory to have the playground for a school to provide good physical related activities. Now many English medium schools are with no playground at all. Must be everybody tried their level best to influence law itself to ease their way and here comes the verdict. God only save our nation.
