New Delh, Dec 12 (Agencies): India and Japan are likely to clinch a series of deals, including bullet trains and civil nuclear pact, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in New Delhi today.
"India is a land of possibilities with excellent human resources and a technological base and Japan has been there at every turning point," said PM Modi
The two leaders met with the business leaders at Business Leaders Forum today.
In the 9th annual Indo-Japan summit talks today, PM Modi and his Japanese counterpart will review implementation of various decisions taken in course of last one year and are likely to focus on enhancing trade and investment between the two Asian economies.
"Indo-Japanese relations will contribute to peace and prosperity in Asia and the world," said Mr Abe, hours after arriving in New Delhi on three-day official visit yesterday, while addressing the Japan-India Innovation Seminar in the national capital.
The two sides are expected to seal a Rs. 98,000 crore deal for India's first bullet train track and deliberate on a civil nuclear pact.
A number of agreements to expand cooperation in a range of areas are expected to be signed today after the summit talks which is likely to deliberate on a number of infrastructure projects including the ambitious smart cities initiative of the Prime Minister.
The bullet train network, set to be finalised, will link Mumbai with Ahmadabad. Bullet train between the two cities will cut travel time on the 505 kilometer route from eight hours to around three.
Welcoming Mr Abe, PM Modi described him as a "phenomenal leader" and said his trip will further deepen the bilateral relations.
After the talks, Mr Abe will leave for Varanasi, which is PM's Parliamentary constituency. He will attend Ganga Aarti with Mr Modi at famous Dasaswamedh Ghat.
