Mangaluru: Financial crisis drives 36-year-old man to suicide

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 16: A man committed suicide by hanging at Kodakkal, Padil here on the night of Tuesday December 15, allegedly due to financial crisis. The incident came to light on Wednesday December 16.

The deceased has been identified as Chandrahas Shetty (36), a resident of Kodakkal Shivanagar, Padil.

Chandrahas was working as a pigmy collector with Mangala Cooperative Society Bank.

It is learnt that several people owed money to Chandrahas and he in turn had taken loans running into several lacs. Unable to pay back his debts, he took the extreme step, sources said.

Sources said that Chandrahas had met some of his friends on Tuesday evening, and he seemed normal. When he did not return home even till late night, a search was conducted and his body was found hanging from a rod in a commercial building at Kodakkal.

Chandrahas was the sole breadwinner of the family. His father Thimmappa Shetty passed away a few years ago, and his elder brother is said to have gone missing. He leaves behind two sisters who are married and his mother.

Mangaluru rural police have registered a case.

Chandranna will miss you bro.. RIP

I knew chandranna since 1998..He was a artist by profession and used to work as part time conductor in Suvarna brothers bus route no.11 which goes to adyar when I met this person. He was soft spoken, well mannered, co-operative, friendly, honest, good hearted.. I don't have a clue why he had taken this extreme step..

When a person goes down financially everybody criticizes him for money. It has happened to me too. Cruel world.. There should be an investigation regarding this and if anybody has forced him or threaten him they should be punished severely. As this is not the case of only bank loans..

Aadmi bahut innocent lagta hai yaar... Suicide is not the final medicine to clear debt..He should have faced challenges..Yes,it is very difficult, but there is a quote " At the end of a tunnel, there is a light"..I read in some magazine about one kannada film Producer who tried to commit suicide with family after incurring heavy loss in films..Luckily,one of the relatives came to know and able to convince him to abort his plan..Finally, he changed his mind..after struggling for 3 years,he made one super hit movie..Director is still active..I forgot his name.

Only time will tell the extent of loan borrowed by him through friends / relatives / financial institutions / other sources. One important lesson I learnt and I never faltered. NEVER bank on friends / relations for hard / easy money, no matter how close that person is to you ... money is the root cause that destroys any / all relationship. So too with loans from financial institutions ... never overdraw beyond your capability or repaying capacity. Play it very safe ... don't burn your fingers because you will get stuck into various problems.

I suggest NEVER EVER go in even for a loan even if you find yourself a bit hesitant. Slog it out yourself. Speculate a target and stretch yourself to the bare limit to see how comfortable you are .. even though your repayment is manageable. Times are bad and we have to cope with it. That is the reason of our existence in this world. Nobody here has the time to reach out to anybody in their times of trials / tribulations. This is the name of the game. Life is one's struggle and every individual must fend for himself and know the nitty gritty's to emerge victorious .. and get out of this mess.

    Joseph
While I fully agree with you, I, looking at my classmates and around, find that Shettys are a risk taking community and hard working. They help one another. But, since many are wealthy and able to spend money on occasions, the present generation wants to "keep up with Joneses", where some are not lucky. This is my view with Shettys I know.

    Dear Santan Mascarenhas, Kinnigoli/Mumbai,

    Why to take a Risk???!!!
Is it not enough in work in Brisk???!!!

In my opinion life will not be a miserable if we have our means and ends sustained.
We are mostly watching others richness and well being then we are also wanting to become rich immediately.
People should have ambition. Life will be miserable thinking of over ambition.

Once a person borrows in a risk management may be it works.
Then he will be optimistic of doing more which may work and may not work and there will have no end to do further and doing more and more.

Once he fails in his risk management then he will deceive the borrower/s.

All business men will be affected in his deceiving management simply because of deception.

In my opinion if a person wanted to make business in budget of one lakh, he should have one more lakh in his bank deposit so that risk management is covered otherwise doomed.

The giver of the loan (Lender) will confiscate whatever he has.

Lastly it would lead to his depression and suicide.
