Songs from a total of 21 senior as well as young Konkani music composers were selected for this ‘Sangitotsav.’ No doubt the majority of the composers are from the coastal area of Karnataka, while there were singers from the inland areas like Bangalore.
The capital of the state is far from the coastal area and the population of Konkani-speakers is not as dense as the latter. But the response to the programme from the Konkani people who migrated to the city for various reasons over the past several decades was tremendous.
Earlier, in a stage programme, state's Kannada and culture minister H S Mahadeva Prasad was honoured for facilitating introduction of Konkani in schools as third optional language. At the same time, the minister appreciated the efforts made by the Konkani Academy for developing Konkani language. He also called Konkani people to retain cordial relationship with Kannada.
Local organizers and FKKCA stalwarts Valerian Fernandes and Charles Gomes, Academy member and senior journalist Gabriel Vas and others were present on the dais.
Academy president Eric Ozario welcomed the gathering. Registrar H S Shivarudrappa proposed the vote of thanks. Albina Vas compered the programme.
