YIASCM welcomes freshers with Deeksharambh 2025 inauguration ceremony

Mangaluru, Jul 15: Deeksharambh 2025, the student induction and orientation programme at Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management (YIASCM) on July 14, was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at the YMK Auditorium, Kulur campus. The chief guest for the event was Rajendra D H, additional superintendent of police, Dakshina Kannada district. The event was presided over by Dr B H Sripathi Rao, pro vice chancellor, Yenepoya Deemed to be University (YDU), while Dr Roopashree Shenoy, founder of Paper Rocket Books, was the guest of honour.

The event was graced by Prof Jeevan Raj, principal (I/C), YIASCM; Prof Shareena P, vice principal and dean of the faculty of commerce and management; Narayan Sukumar A, vice principal; along with faculty members and students, marking the beginning of a new academic journey for freshers of BBA, BCom, BSc, BCA, BA, and BDes programmes.

Deeksharambh 2025, scheduled from July 14 to 21, aims to orient students to the academic culture, institutional values, and support systems of YIASCM. The week-long programme is designed to assist the students' transition smoothly into campus life while fostering a sense of purpose, belonging, and academic curiosity.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Srijana Shet, assistant professor of computer science and Deeksharambh programme secretary, who introduced the distinguished guests. This was followed by a solemn invocation led by Salith, II BA communication science. The chief guest, along with the dignitaries, lit the ceremonial lamp, setting a motivational tone for the new academic year and inspiring students to embrace learning, innovation, and personal growth.

Prof Jeevan Raj delivered the opening address, emphasizing the significance of the Deeksharambh programme in helping students transition into higher education. He focused on the three C’s—Clarity, Confidence, and Connection—motivating students to embrace their academic experience with an open mind. He also highlighted the institute’s vision, infrastructure, and the availability of multidisciplinary electives under NEP 2020, encouraging students to make the most of their academic journey.

The chief guest, Rajendra D H, captivated the students with a lively and engaging address. He stressed the importance of a healthy campus environment and skill development. Drawing from his personal experiences, he encouraged students to learn from failures, build confidence, and manage challenges effectively. He also cautioned them against substance abuse and unhealthy lifestyles, urging them to remain focused on their goals.

The gathering greatly benefited from the insights shared by the guest of honour, Dr Roopashree Shenoy. She motivated the students to actively engage in research, projects, and extracurricular activities. Emphasizing the importance of curiosity, content writing, part-time jobs, and community outreach programs, she encouraged them to explore diverse opportunities beyond academics.

Shifting focus to academic leadership, Dr B H Sripathi Rao, in his presidential address, highlighted the institution’s remarkable journey and the university’s contributions to education. He urged students to interact with faculty, set clear goals, and develop self-confidence and communication skills to succeed in their careers.

The event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Shubham Kulal, lecturer in computer science and was hosted by Pinakini Shetty, lecturer in commerce.
