Kundapur, Dec 30: Two persons, who were making preparations for the proposed 'Srinivasa Kalyana' programme scheduled to be held at Tallur near here shortly, were electrocuted on Tuesday December 29.
Manoj Devadiga (30) and Sunil Mogaveera (26), both from Tallur village, were the unfortunate victims of the tragedy. They came in contact with metal wire that was in contact with electric cables passing above. Another person, Mahesh, was injured due to electric shocks. He was admitted to a hospital in the town for treatment.
A local has sponsored 'Srinivasa Kalyana' programme at Tallur shortly. In this connection, several youngsters had been engaged to tie banners at various places to give wide publicity for the programme so that people can come in large numbers for this programme being held at considerable expense. It is said that one of them went up a tree located near the high school ground at Tallur, tied a metal wire to the tree and tossed the other end of the wire away. The youth had not noticed that a high tension electric wire was passing nearby. The other end of the wire fell on the ground after touching the high tension wire on the way. Manoj, who was standing on the ground, held the wire with his hands and suffered electric shocks immediately.
Manoj immediately started to shake violently. Sunil rushed to his rescue. Electricity flowed through his body too, and he passed away while being shifted to a hospital. Another youth, Mahesh, who was also injured by electric shocks, was admitted into a private hospital here, and he is recovering.
Local police circle inspector, Diwakar P M, and sub-inspector, Nassir Hussain, visited the spot and conducted inquiries. Bodies stand shifted to the mortuary at the government hospital here. A case stands registered in the police station in the town.
Two men electrocuted

Mangaluru, Dec 30: In another incident that occured on the evening of Monday December 28, two youths were electrocuted when they were trying to pluck coconuts at Baikampady.
It is learnt that Narayana (45) of Yeyyadi and Balakrishna (43) of Adyar were trying to pluck coconuts using an iron rod.
While doing so, they lost balance and the iron rod fell on a 11 KV high tension wire, electrocuting both of them.
As no one was around, they could not get help on time, and died on the spot.
After the incident, the power went off in the area, and when Mescom workers came for repair, they found the bodies lying at the spot. It was only then that the deaths came to light.
Both of them were employees of Ratna Automobile Industries.
Panambur police registered a case.
