Kasargod, Jan 1: A police sub-inspector has been arrested for the help he rendered to a person in obtaining a passport with fake documents.
Sub-inspector Madhusudhan from Tellicherry (Thalassery) police station is the person arrested. The arrest was done by crime branch police officials. Madhusudhan had been earlier suspended pending enquiry. As his role in the case was confirmed subsequently, the police officials decided to arrest Madhusudhan, said the sources.
When Madhusudhan was a head constable at Badiadka police station in 2001, it is alleged that he helped a person named Lathif to obtain passport with the help of fake documents. Lathif used the ration card and school certificate belonging to Moideen Kunhi Kedenji from Badiyadka and submitted them as his own documents to obtain passport. Madhusudhan then did the verification work at the police station, it is said.
The matter came to light years later. Lathif's wife’s body was found in a well in 2013. At that time, Lathif was working in the Middle East. During investigation into the case, when then police wanted to summon Lathif for questioning, they came to know that Lathif had obtained his passport with fake documents. The police named Lathif as the prime accused in his wife's death case.
When the police dug deeper into the passport issue, it was revealed that the passport was issued in the name of Moideen Kunhi Kedenji and Lathif used this passport with his photo affixed. It was later learnt that Madhusudhan had helped Lathif in obtaining the said passport.
