Puttur, Jan 1: The Puttur police on New Year's eve night took 20 persons of a prayer centre to the police station, averting a raid reportedly planned by a right-wing outfit on the centre.
It is learnt that on the night of Thursday December 31, the police went to the Believers Church of India (BCI) prayer centre at Jodukatte and rounded up 20 persons and took them away.
Sources said that the police had received information that a right-wing group had planned to attack the prayer centre claiming allegations of 'conversion'. To avert any possible trouble, the police reached the spot and took 20 persons to the police station as a precautionary measure, sources said. Some of the persons included coolie workers, it is learnt.
Authorities of BCI prayer centre explained that people had gathered at the centre only to participate in New Year's prayer and there was no other activity going on.
The police released all the 20 later. No case was registered.
