Karkala, Jan 2: To usher in New Year with joyous celebration, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Kanajar hosted 'Sumadhur Survaath' a mesmerizing musical night show, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church premises, Kanajar, on Thursday, January 1.
Young and dashing Konkani singer Kevin Misquith, along with his band 'Milestones' was the limelight of the event. ‘Yeya Hasuya’ winner 'Kushali Kinnigoli' showered a rain of laughter with their jokes. Scintillating dances by Gavin Rodrigues and his crew enthralled the gathering.
The programme was inaugurated by releasing helium balloons. Ignatius D’souza, vice-president, parish pastoral council, Kevin Misquith, Edwin Mendonca, Prashanth Andrade, Jessica Castelino, ICYM secretary and Franklin, deanery ICYM were on the dais.
Fr Alexander Lewis, parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar presided over the programme with chief guests Lawrence Saldanha, general manager of Arabian Darb, Kuwait and founder of Glarida Education Trust and Stany D’Souza, managing director of Dragon Engineering, Dubai.
Addressing the gathering, managing director of Dragon Engineering, Dubai, Stany D'Souza said, "If we want any movement to take place, we need to have an association. For instance, in Indian history, the fight for freedom started with a movement and in the process many young souls sacrificed their lives for our country. Similarly, to host a good event, we need to be united. It is not possible to achieve anything without hard work and sacrifice."
Fr Alexander Lewis, director of ICYM, commended all the ICYM members for their hard work. "It is because of ICYM that I am addressing all of you today. The youth of our church are responsible and are serving the church honestly. Their dedicated work delights me so much."
He also had a word of praise for Prashanth Andrade, president of ICYM, Edwin Mendonca, the animator and Kevin Misquith for their hard work.
Prashanth Andrade welcomed the gathering. Sheldon Crasta compered the programme.
Music, songs, laughter and fun-filled atmosphere enveloped the New Year night.
