Mangaluru, Jan 4: The cast and crew of Tulu movie 'Chandi Kori', which has completed a successful run of 100 days in different theatres in the city, celebrated the milestone with a gala event at Town Hall here on Monday January 4.
The programme was formally inaugurated by lighting the lamp by all the dignitaries on the dais.
Addressing the gathering, minister for sports and fisheries, Abhayachandra Jain said, "On behalf of all the people of Tulunadu, I would like to thank the most loved artiste Devdas Kapikad for giving such a wonderful movie. I wish that the movie completes one year and creates history in Tulu cinema. Devdas Kapikad's son has done great work in Tulu industry. I wish him success and wish that he shines in Kannada and Hindi film industries too. I wish all success in the future projects of Devdas Kapikad and his team."
Former vice-chancellor of Karnataka State Open University Prof B A Vivek Rai said, "There was a time when only old people used to watch Tulu movies. But now even youngsters watch them. 'Chandi Kori' is an excellent movie. It is no less than any Hindi movie, with Arjun Kapikad as the lead actor. Devdas Kapikad through his drama and movies has taken the Tulu language to a greater height. I wish that this movie completes 200 days. I urge the minister to place a proposal in the cabinet to consider Tulu as the second language in the state."
Speaking on the occasion, zilla panchayat president Sathish Kumpala said, "This is not only the success of Tulu movie but also of all Tulu artistes. Devdas Kapikad has brought fame and pride to Tulu language all over the world. At one point of time, movies could be watched only in theatres but now we can watch movies at home. In spite of that, this movie has completed 100 days in theatres. I congratulate Kapikad and his whole team on successfully completing 100 days and wish that they bring out more such movies in the future.”
Former Tulu Sahitya Academy president Umanath Kotian said, "Devdas Kapikad was the one who brought name and fame to Tulu drama. He is a complete artiste who has got a knack for movies. He is good in all aspects, be it acting, direction or any other role. I wish him all success in all his future endeavours. I wish that he gives more such good movies in future.”
The cast and crew who have worked for the success of the movie were honoured with mementos.
A variety of cultural programmes enthralled the gathering.
Devdas Kapikad, Sharmila Kapikad, Prakash Pandeshwar and many others were present.
