Bengaluru, Jan 4: Former Supreme Court Judge and former Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Justice Vikramajit Sen is most likely to be the new Karnataka Lokayukta.
Justice Sen is among the three persons shortlisted for the top post in Karnataka Lokayukta after Justice Y Bhaskar Rao demitted office following his son Ashwin Rao’s arrest in the corruption scandal along with others.
The other two persons shortlisted by a panel headed by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday, are sitting judge of High Court of Karnataka N K Patil and former judge of High Court of Karnataka S R Nayak.
Though no name has been finalised yet, Justice Sen is most likely to be chosen as his name has also been recommended by the sitting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.
The Lokayukta post fell vacant following resignation of Justice Bhaskar Rao last month.
145 Residential English Medium Schools
Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya, at a separate news conference on Monday, said 145 residential English medium schools would be opened across the State from next academic year.
Each school would accommodate 250 students from class 6 to class 10. Each school would have 11 teaching and 16-non-teaching faculty.
The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) would be asked to recruit eligible teachers.
The minister said each school would be established on 10 acres at the cost of Rs 10-15 crore.
The proposed residential school would have activities related to farming, animal husbandry, gym, library for ensuring integrated education for kids.
Owing to shortage of land for developing schools, Deputy Commissioners, MLAs and MLCs have asked to identify lands.
Compensation based on present market value would be provided to land owners, Anjaneya said.
200 post-metric hostels for boys and girls
As many as 100 each post-metric hostels would be constructed for boys and girls before the commencement of the next academic year.
The cost of each hostel would be Rs 3 crore, the minister said.
Wardens, cooks and security personnel would be recruited for each hostel.
Following the recent Karnataka High Court verdict, he said services of 409 teachers of Morarji Desai School would be regularised.
Teachers had been hired on ad-hoc basis about four years ago. About 1600 teachers’ vacancies to be filled though KPSC, the social welfare minister said.
