Udupi, Jan 5: Malpe fisherfolk on Tuesday January 5 offered Horekanike to Sri Krishna Math for the Paryaya to be held on January 18.

The Horekanike procession was inaugurated at Malpe beach by Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math by pouring milk into the sea. Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji from Pejawar Math and hundreds of devotees were present during the occasion.

Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji is ascending Paryaya Peetha for the fifth time on January 18 this year.

The Horekanike offering by the fisherfolk of Malpe contained all the grains and pulses required for the Krishna Math for the next two years and part of the groceries required for the Annasantapane (food provided to devotees) during the Paryaya function.

Soon after the inauguration speaking to the fisherfolk Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji said, "Every time the Hindu religion is in difficulty, the fisherfolk come for protection. They have always cooperated during my tenure. We require the same commitment from them in the future.

"The water in the sea does not remain there. It evaporates and comes back as rain to join the sea again. The process continues infinitely. Fisherfolk here have devoted their lives like sea water for the benefit of society. They have contributed immensely for the betterment of society in all spheres especially social and religious. I am proud to visit them and to be associated with them."

Horekanike committee convenor Yashpal Suvarna, Former MLA Raghupati Bhat, Bhuvanendra Kidiyoor, Hiriyanna Kidiyoor, G Shankar, Prashanth Amin, and Prasadraj Kanchan were present among hundreds of devotees gathered. Fisherwomen with Kalashaas and children added colour to the procession.

The grand procession of about 200  vehicles proceeded from Malpe to Kalmady, Karavali Junction, and Kalsanka and culminated at Rajangana Ugrana.

The Horekanike will be stored at the Ugrana (store room).
