Karwar, Jan 6: A foreign national, during his travel by train in India about a year ago, had lost his backpack. The tourist, identified as Koniev Dmytro, a Ukrainian, was pleasantly surprised to get back his backpack containing valuables intact after a long gap.
Koniev visited the town on Tuesday January 5 during his current trip to the country, to collect his lost backpack. Railway Protection Force here, which had found the backpack in Veraval-Thiruvananthapuram Express (train No. 16333) on February 13, 2015, took time to determine its ownership. This task had gained momentum after Vinod Kumar P took over as the inspector protection force here.
The backpack was found to be containing a number of items including digital camera, Indian currency Rs 15,000, some Turkish currency, laptop, master cards, battery charger and some other things. The unclaimed baggage remained with Railway Protection Force office here, and the officials, in spite of best efforts, had filed to identify its owner.
Vinod Kumar, who took up the work of identifying the bag's owner, stumbled upon a telephone number in a dairy inside this unclaimed baggage. He contacted the number, duly drawing help from a person who knew Russian language. Dmytro, who was too happy to know that his baggage was intact, confirmed that the bag indeed belonged to him and he had lost it at Margao railway station.
