Mangaluru: Woman allegedly gang-raped by cops, escapes from hospital

Mangaluru, Jan 7: In a shocking incident, a lady belonging to an orphanage was allegedly gang-raped by Kerala policemen and found abandoned late night on Tuesday January 6. The orphanage in question is located at Payyanur, Kerala.

Late night on Tuesday, a lady was found to have been abandoned near Haradi railway bridge in Puttur taluk. She was injured and was unconscious. Some locals admitted her into the government hospital at Puttur. When the doctors of the hospital began to conduct medical tests on her, she told them that she was gang-raped by Kerala police. Therefore, the woman was sent to Lady Goschen hospital here. She was brought to the city in an 108 ambulance service, and admitted into Lady Goschen hospital.

When the doctors proceeded to provide her treatment, it is said she refused to cooperate with them. Hospital sources said that the woman, who was suffering from depression, fled from the hospital without cooperating with the staff there. A case about the incident was filed in Bunder police station here.

It is not known as to whether the woman, who happens to be of Haryana origin, was gang-raped in running train or inside the orphanage where she was being cared for. Investigation has been undertaken.

    when the woman from orphanage means ,she must be sick or without Family.I too cant order the sayings and Happening.must be mentally sick.People took Advantage of her sickness may be on the way?second here I doubt whether they were real Police?or told they were to her to gain her confidence.?all complicated.when real Police are then must take Action on them but whoom?who can recognize them.

    The woman seems to be depressed, may be due to many undue advantages taken by people and police. My experience in Mumbai is, a helpless (Nirashray) woman is a toy in the hands of police. It has come to a stage that raping her is considered as one of their fringe benefits and it is going on in every chance they get. It is condemnable, but is a reality.

    so many grey areas... orphanage is located at Payyanur, Kerala. It's also mentioned that gang-raped by Kerala police. admitted into the hospital at Puttur...she refused to cooperate with doctors... finally fled from the hospital... and the lady is from Kariyana...does that makes sense ? How does she knows the raped people are Kerala police people.. how did she reached Puttur ? Suspecting as so many false stories now a days... if it's real and woman was gang raped , then of course the culprits to be punished... but a clear investigation is the need of the hour.

    If there was an attempted kidnap at midnight, why she kept her cool when forced rape took place? Isn't there any security guard at the entrance to orphanage? Looks like she moved out at her free will and faced such consequence.
    Whatever the facts, police if found guilty of taking advantage on a helpless poor woman, should be punished for their inhuman act.

    Yes, you are right. She went for a late night disco in bikini, had more than enough drinks and was dancing her way back alone when she was raped. Typical Indian mentality of judging the woman when she suffers a rape. I think facing the society is a bigger punishment for a Indian lady than getting raped.

    Most unfortunate incident. Investigate and dismiss the cops who are guilty instantly. There should be a re look into the procedure for dismissal of government servants. Long winding procedures should be removed and speedy methods introduced. For crimes of such nature it should be instant dismissal after proper investigation.
