Mangaluru, Jan 11: Mangalore International Airport has emerged as the topper in the entire South India as far as consumer satisfaction and service are concerned. Among 53 airports across the country, it has been given the fifth spot.
The ranking is based on consumer satisfaction survey conducted by Airports Authority of India. Out of five maximum possible points, the airport here has got 4.75. The other airports getting higher score as per the index are, Raipur (4.86), Chandigarh (4.83), Udaipur (4.80), and Bhubaneshwar (4.79). However, among the South Indian airports, this airport has been given the top spot.
This survey conducted for the period between July and December 2015, covers 53 medium size airports of India which handle 15 lac passengers annually. The survey covers 33 services including parking, baggage trolley, checkout queue waiting time, speed of baggage disposal etc. This airport has gained high points for cleanliness. Durga Facilities from the city, which maintains the airport, has been using modern machinery for the purpose.
For the first time among the airports of South India, Mangalore International Airport has also bagged OHSAS 18001:2007 certificate for best maintenance and safety standards. This certificate is issued on the basis of general maintenance of the airport, air traffic, facilities in the airport terminal, safety and allied services.
Among the airports in South India, Coimbatore with 4.74 marks is at second spot, pushing Tiruchi (4.73) to the third place.
