Kundapur, Jan 13: A person from Tekkatte in the taluk, who used to blackmail young lovers found moving around in parks of Bengaluru by posing himself as a policeman, and blackmailing them to part with their jewellery, was arrested on Tuesday January 12. A man, who used to buy gold ornaments so robbed, was also held.

The arrested accused, Ganesh Mogaveera (29), reportedly clicked pictures of lovers frequenting parks at Bengaluru in his cellphone. Ganesh, who was earlier arrested after having been accused of his involvement with chain snatching case at Hattiangady in the taluk over a year back, had started working for a hotel at Bengaluru. During his free time, he visited parks in the city, and captured photographs of young unmarried couples clandestinely. Then he approached them in the guise of a policeman, and extorted them to part with gold ornaments by blackmailing them with threat to make these photos public, it is said.
His accomplice Laxman (43), who bought the jewellery so robbed from Ganesh regularly and paid him cash, was also taken into custody. The gold ornaments seized from the accused weigh 341 grams, and are valued at Rs 9 lac.
During the last one year, the accused confessed, he had posed threats to 11 women at several places in Bengaluru including Basavanagudi, Thyagaraja Nagar, Girinagar, Banashankari and Jayanagar areas. The police from Jayanagar station tracked his movement, and found that Ganesh used over 30 SIM cards to avoid getting tracked.
It is gathered that Ganesh has two wives and three children. His first wife lives in a house near Thotadabettu in Tekkatte.
