Mangaluru, Jan 24: Pramod Kumar, who served as circle inspector (CI) of Mangaluru rural police station and had been in the eye of the storm recently over the arrest of an accused in Ulaibettu case, has been transferred.
As per an order dated Friday January 22, Pramod has been transferred to DCRB (daily crime report bureau), Chamarajanagar with immediate effect.
The order, signed by ADGP (administration) Praveen Sood states that Pramod along with three other police inspectors in other parts of the state have been transferred in public interest and for administrative reasons, after taking due concurrence of the state Election Commission.
It may be recalled that on December 8, 2015, the personnel of Mangaluru rural police station had risen in protest against the administration alleging that Pramod had been 'sent on leave' for arresting an accused in connection to an assault case in Ulaibettu that took place in December 2014. The protest was withdrawn after Pramod 'resumed' duty. While some had argued that the arrest of Abubakker was a case of 'mistaken identity', the girl who had filed the complaint had claimed that there was no mistake on the part of inspector Pramod. MLA of Mangaluru north Mohiuddin Bava, who was accused of influencing the police, had gone on record saying that he had not instructed anyone to transfer Pramod, but only told the police that the person arrested may be innocent. Sources claimed that this incident had a role to play in Pramod's transfer.
