New Delhi, Sep 8: And it all came down, no it didn’t. It didn’t, but it could have… but it didn’t. Ok, maybe it almost did! It could have, but she had ‘protection’.
Even as the sharpshooters with the lens wondered whether they would be filing pictures about Carol Gracias’ second tribute to the flower power era for the news pages, the model pirouetted, winked, let out a little scream and promptly pulled the Namrata Joshipura metallica dress in place. How’s that for a tease?
But first things first - India’s position on the international runway is safe, at least till the time no one asks our designers to spell what they are sending out on the runway! And fickle as fashion is, little would we have guessed that even this would become a trend!
You see, though we know that most of pseudo-intellectual prose is now churned out by over-worked PR types, would someone please introduce them to a spell check or better yet - Rapidex?
Earlier Vijay Arora got confused between Eggs Benedict and a skirt. The result? He sent out a ‘yolk’ skirt! Following the trend this season was Rina Dhaka.
Offsetting the fabulous collection was a cue sheet that had a model walking out wearing a Lave pink dress with green ‘chicken’ hand-embroidered motifs at the hems.
Thankfully, ‘Broaderie anglais’ had been converted to ‘Broderie anglais’ before we could order a butter naan to go with the chicken embroidery (its Chikan for the uninitiated!).
The story doesn’t end there. This is one trend seems to have taken fashion by storm and how! Even though everyone, Renu Tandon included, have been doing ‘balloon’ dresses close to three seasons now, what did stand out in her ‘embrodiery’ laden collection were her flower print ‘lenin’ box pleated tunic (we wonder if Lenin would have something to say about this!) and her ‘ballon’ sleeve v-neck fabric.
There were others too though, while Namrata Joshipura sent out piece after piece in fiery ‘fuchia’, the one thing that did have people suppressing a smile was it wasn’t even fuschia, it was red for God’s sake!
And, even as we searched for shrugs that were listed on the cue sheets but were not to see the light of the runway, some designers stuck by the old is gold rule.
As the models lined up for their sequins, those like Anjana Bhargava sent out sarees with ‘sequence’! Others though stuck to the trend forecasts - ‘Pletted’ skirts and ‘zardosi’ blouse! Plus, there was always the forecast for ‘yeollow’ that Elisha W was following. But then, we’re not judging!
