Bengaluru: Panel for probe into unnatural deaths in Beltangady

Bengaluru, Jan 26 (DHNS): The committee on preventions of crimes against women and children headed by V S Ugrappa has recommended the government to send a special squad to Beltangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada to investigate the large of number of unnatural deaths in the taluk in the last five years.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Ugrappa said that the panel visited various places in Dakshina Kannada district recently and was shocked to learn that there had been 500 unnatural deaths, a majority of them women, in Beltangady taluk alone during the last five years.

“The district administration and the local police are clueless about the large number of deaths. We have sought that the government immediately constitute a special investigation team to probe the deaths”, Ugrappa said.

He said the panel observed that there were 149 medical scanning centres in Dakshina Kannada - more than the number of hospitals in the district.

Sex ratio

The district has a skewed sex ratio. This could be due to female foeticide after illegal sex determination test at some of these centres, Ugrappa said.

He said the conviction rate in Mangaluru and other rural pockets of Dakshina Kannada pertaining to rape cases, atrocities against women, dowry cases was very poor.

There had been only 18 convictions out of the 601 cases of atrocities against women, registered in Mangaluru between 2005 and 2015, he pointed out.

Many such committees and panels have been made earlier too. Its all to show they are doing something but in reality nothing. What happened to that school girl's death and there were so many protests took place in belthangady area. Every year Appas, Aiyyas, Attas, Ammas come and conduct meetings at common citizen's cost Its all eye wash.

World knows the truth who is behind this. Government can only send squad, investigating teams, commissions etc.. You cant do anything more. He may escape from the eyes of law not from god.

The Prime Minister and Chief Minister must adopt cleaning of Judicial System in India and State, Specially Karnataka Judicial System where criminals are set out free to do more crimes since we can see only 18 Convictions were registered in 2005 to 2015 out of 618 cases. This shows the question of eligibility of Judicial system of Karnataka to save Women and Children. So it is high time the Prime Minister and Chief minister Interfere and let them provide honest officers to the judicial system of India as well as create law in Rajya Sabha and Lokasabha for the purpose of Judiciary Vigilance.

It is a wonderful step to stop atrocities and unnatural deaths provided these panels submit the report judicially without any bias.

Only a probe under the supervision of the Supreme Court will unearth the truth. How could a responsible government not be aware of 500 unnatural deaths in just one taluk of belthangady? Surprising and Suspicious!!!

You should not forget the number of visitors to this taluk when giving the number of deaths however exaggerated it might be.
The Dharmasthala temple attracts devotees in numbers exceeding 50 thousand on some days, with an average of 10000 daily.

@shanker Mangalore, what do u mean by u r comment.Unnatural deaths of 500 shall be treated as null against the number of people visit to Dharmasthala?. Read carefully the article, "Un Natural death" caused by any means, that is not natural. Who ever put their hand in the investigation has to burn their hand without any out put. End of the investigation case closed due to bla bla bla....

Though the Sowjanya case was highlighted and handed over to CBI, justice is yet to come. Likewise how many such cases may have gone unnoticed?
