Bengaluru, Jan 29: BJP has demanded the dismissal of labour minister, P T Parameshwar Naik, from the state cabinet for his controversial and contrasting statements about the transfer of a police officer from his home district.
Parameshwar Naik, district in-charge minister for Ballari, has now claimed that he had got deputy superintendent of police from Kudligi, Anupama Shenoy, for not receiving his phone call. His claim came when addressing people from his home constituency.
After Shenoy was abruptly transferred to Indi, speaking about the controversy, director general of police, Omprakash, had clarified that she was posted on office duty there because of exigencies relating to coming zilla and taluk panchayat elections. Naik, when approached, had dismissed claims that he had something to do with the officer's transfer.
However, addressing people in his home constituency later, Naik had claimed that he was the one who got Anupama transferred.
Speaking to the media, home minister, Dr G Parameshwar, claimed on Thursday that transfer of police officers is done after holding discussions in Police Establishment Board. He said that as per information provided to him, Anupama Shenoy was sent on office duty. He feigned ignorance about Parameshwar Naik's claim of getting the police transferred for not receiving his call.
Speaking to media persons, leader of the opposition in the state assembly, Jagadish Shettar, noted that the chief minister has not so far responded about the above controversy. He said that the home minister has claimed that he could not get clarification from Parameshwar Naik, as he had not been able to get in touch with the minister. Shettar asked Parameshwar Naik to resign from his position failing which he has asked the chief minister to drop Naik from the ministry.
