Mangalore, Sep 13: Few aspects with regard to law and order in Dakshina Kannada district have deteriorated in the past few years. These issues flare up violence and lead to tension take priority over other, said A M Prasad, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Western Range.

While interacting with the office-bearers and members of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on the topic ‘Law and Order Issue in Dakshina Kannada’ on Wednesday September 12, he said that, violence flares especially during the festival celebrations. The police department has to ensure peaceful celebrations by curbing on violence, he added.

Speaking about immigration, he said that the issue would be given utmost importance at the port. Many people come here through the port. Immigration is a sensitive issue, in the era of global terrorism. Hence, the police department would give due significance, in this regard, he assured.

Meanwhile, rowdy-related crimes are still taking place in DK which has a special dimension in this district. The police personnel in each police station across the district would be equipped to curb rowdy related activities, he added.

Naxal issue has been affecting Malnad area since few years. It is good that the state government has formed a dedicated force to control Naxal problem. The force has been successful in curbing Naxal menace in the Malnad. However, such operations require sustained effort and support from the public. Any action taken should not lead to collateral damages, he stressed.

KCCI president Capt John Prasad Menezes, office-bearers Ahmed Bava, Kumble Narashimha Prabhu, Srinivas Kamath and Shekar Poojary were present.
