Mangaluru, Feb 14: A woman was killed in a bike accident near Kinnikambala, Gurpur here on Sunday February 14.
The deceased has been identified as Hema (43), wife of Purandara Acharya, a resident of Bhandaribettu, Bantwal.
It is learnt that Hema was on her way to Addoor attend the funeral of a relative when the accident took place.
Hema and her husband were riding to Addoor when, near Kinnikambala, a bus in front of them applied sudden brakes. Purandara, in a bid to avoid hitting the bus, tried to overtake it, but he saw another vehicle approaching from the opposite direction and veered to the left. Hema who was sitting pillion lost her balance and fell off the bike and sustained serious head injuries.
She was rushed to hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Purandara who sustained minor injuries was also taken to hospital.
Bajpe police have registered a case.
Hema was a former president of Bantwal Vishwajyothi Mahila Mandali and was active in women's organizations. She was also an excellent singer and gave music lessons, besides being an active member of several bhajan groups.
Hema leaves behind her husband, two sons and a daughter.
Vishwajyothi Mahila Mandali and Bantwal Vishwakarma Samaja Seva Sangha have condoled her sudden demise.
