Court attackers were 'highly politically motivated': Kanhaiya

New Delhi, Feb 27 (IANS): "The mob that beat me at the Patiala House Court seemed to be highly politically motivated as they were well prepared for the attack," Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar said in a video.

Kanhaiya Kumar and a few journalists were assaulted at the Patiala House Courts complex on February 15 and 17.

Recounting the attack, Kumar said in a video broadcast by CNN-IBN news channel that one of the attackers also entered the corridor of the court room where the hearing was scheduled to be held.

Stating that Delhi Police did not take any action, he said the attackers escaped from there.

In the video, Kumar said the lawyers' mob was prepared for attack as when they saw him at the entrance gate of Patiala House court, he heard them calling other people saying that Kanhaiya had arrived.

The lawyers started attacking me while raising slogans, he added. "I think they (attackers) are highly political motivated."

The university came under attack after an event was held on the university campus on February 9 against the execution of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested in a sedition case on February 12 for allegedly rasing anti-India slogans at the event.
