Mangalore, Sep 21: Blood component separation facilities at Wenlock which was procured at a total cost of Rs 54 lac more than year ago was finally used when hospital supplied the first bag of ‘packed cells’ to a private hospital in Karkala on Thursday September 20.
The licence was withheld on the grounds of inadequate carpet area in the centre by the director general of drug controller in New Delhi, said Dr J Prabhudeva, district surgeon and superintendent of district government Wenlock Hospital, speaking to reporters here on Thursday September 20.
As soon as the first batch of ‘double bags’ reached hospital one week ago, it started the process of separation of blood components on a trial basis.
Sources said that the hospital will charge Rs 250 per bag but will be provided free of cost to patients who have BPL cards, informed Dr Prabhudev.
