Mangaluru, Mar 5: The Dakshina Kannada branch of Indian Dental Association will hold a unique 'Selfie your smile' contest where the contestant with the best smile will be awarded. The contest will be held at Forum Fiza Mall, Pandeshwar and City Centre Mall, KS Rao Road here on Sunday March 6 between 10 am and 6 pm.
The event will mark Internation Dentist's Day that is celebrated annually on March 6. As part of the celebrations, the Dakshina Kannada branch of the IDA, which is one of the oldest branches of the IDA, will also be conducting dental awareness programme at City Centre Mall and Forum Fiza Mall on the same day, as a pro bono service for the public by dentists to facilitate oral health self-awareness.
The IDA-DK branch plans on utilizing the selfie concept as an oral health and smile assessment tool in organizing the 'Selfie your smile' contest. The public can take their smile selfies in the platform provided on March 6 at City Centre Mall and Forum Fiza Mall.
The best smile selfie will be presented with the 'IDA-DK Best Smile Award', which includes cash prize and gift vouchers. There will be separate categories for males and females. This programme aims at helping the public to have a better self-understanding and thereby empowering them to make improvements in their oral health.
The Indian Dental Association (IDA) since its inception has played a key role in supporting the delivery of oral healthcare services in India by formulating oral health policies and initiating and supporting nationwide initiatives. Oral health is an integral part of general health that affects the overall well-being and quality of life. Smile, a core quality of one's persona and a peace tool, can change millions of lives for the better. A healthy smile is a window to overall health and translates the language of well-being to the society.
IDA-DK branch which is one of the most active branches of the IDA has been conducting public awareness programmes like these since many years. The other programmes lined up for the year are dental check up camps at schools, teachers training program on dental awareness, especially emergency management of dental trauma, training for Anganwadi workers about dental health and early caries detection. Dental awareness programme at public places like bus station, railways station, markets etc. The IDA will continue to strive to raise oral health awareness and be an instrument in spreading joy all around.
