Mangalore, Oct 1: Father Muller Health card’s inauguration along-with the opening of Allied Health Science courses (2007-08 Batch) and a Book Release function of books authored by the college staff, was held in the Academy Hall, Father Muller Medical College (FMCC) here on Monday October 1.
M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao pointed out that the notion of financial inclusion is the talk of the town. Similarly the notion of health inclusion must be realized soon, as India and the Indians are more prone to diabetes and heart related health risks, he cautioned.
He accordingly said that as one grows old, mechanics of the body slows down. Under such conditions, health cards will be beneficial, he advised.
Moreover, he stated that the meaning of poverty is unfortunately limited to rural areas, but it is an undeniable fact that the poor also reside in urban areas with slight changes in their proportion and percentages. And therefore the DC declared that extending of quality health services and facilities to urban areas is the need of the hour.
Stressing on the importance of health economics, Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director, FMCC stated that the knowledge, expertise and experience all together will make the students of medicine competent, an area where Father Muller Medical College makes no compromise, he delineated in his presidential address.
Health centers with the help of government have been set up at rural areas by the medical college and are running successfully. The medical college also has plans to set up similar centers in urban areas, answered Fr Patrick in response to the request made by Rao to cater to improve the health facilities in urban areas.
The chief guest launched the health card, whereas the books authored by Dr Padmaja Uday Kumar, Dr Ashok Kumar, Dr Smitha Bhat and Dr Shiran Shetty related to health sciences were released by the dignitaries present on the occasion.
Fr Denis D'Sa, administrator, FMCC welcomed and introduced the dignitaries to the gathering. Dr Sanjeev Rai, dean, FMCC proposed the vote of thanks.
