Bengaluru, Apr 1: It has now been revealed that some alert students who sent photos of the handwritten question paper they had accessed through the WhatsApp number provided by police department asking people to send information if any they have about question paper leakage to it, helped in detecting leakage of PU chemistry question paper. The above number had been provided by the police to enable people to provide information about the leakage of March 21 chemistry question paper.
Accordingly, the investigation launched into the March 21 leakage was instrumental in finding out the leakage of the question paper of the postponed examination.
On receipt of the photos of handwritten question paper, officials of criminal investigation department (CID), who have been heading the investigation, sent the same to director of PU education, Pallavai Akurathi, at around 3.30 am on Thursday. Pallavi went to the department's office, verified the question paper received with the originals at around 5.40 am, and found that all the 37 questions contained in handwritten question paper were appearing in original question paper too. She immediately convened a meeting of officials and brought the issue to the notice of the government. Thereafter, at around 6.15 am, it was made public and the re-examination was postponed.
It is gathered that CID officials from the city, Kolar and Tumakuru regions had received information about the question paper leakage late night on Wednesday through students, who sent information they had to the phone number 9480800123 provided by the police. This information was immediately conveyed to PU Board.
20 investigating teams have been fanned out to different places in the state. CID deputy inspector general of police, Sonia Narang, who noted that the department has been getting some important clues from the students and their parents about the leakage, has renewed her request to the people to keep providing whatever information they have on the issue to the CID. CID personnel, based on information provided by cyber staff, have been questioning retired lecturers, tutorials staff, PU students and their parents in Jayanagar, J P Nagar and Banashankari in the city to get to the root of the issue, it is gathered.
