Saudi Arabia : Modi announces 24x7 helpline for Non-Resident Indians

Riyadh, Apr 3 (Agencies) : Reaching out to Non-Resident Indians, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tonight announced a 24x7 multi-lingual helpline for them and said a move to regularise migration was in the offing through an online programme.

Asserting that the NRIs could count on the Indian government in the times of crisis, he said they could use the avenues like the MADAD portal to reach the government for help.

Specifically for Indians in Saudi Arabia, he announced the setting up of worker resource centres in Riyadh and Jeddah to provide them with all necessary help.

Addressing a gathering of L&T workers who are constructing metro rail in Riyadh, he said the country was proud of their contribution which has enhanced India's image abroad and opened doors for overseas employment opportunities for their compatriots.

"Whenever any good news regarding you people comes, I feel as happy as your family. When there is news of some concern regarding you, I feel the pain like your family would because you are my family," PM Modi said, adding that he shared their happiness and sorrow.

"Government has started a programme called e-migrate. In the coming days, we are working to regularise migration," he said.

"In the coming days, we plan to establish worker resource centres in Riyadh and Jeddah to meet your needs and there will also be a 24X7 helpline. A call centre will be established whose facilities can be availed in different languages and through this helpline you can share your problems," PM Modi said.

One must appreciate the initiate taken by our Prime Minister Mr. Modi. There are lot of hopes for the betterment and development of India with his new ideas in all the areas. Criticizing is not the solution. We being Indian what we have done for the country have to be questioned by ourselves.
Thank you for your visit to Saudi sir. We are proud to be Indians.

He was talking about emigrate website which is supposed to help ECR passport holders. The question is, how many companies are registered under emigrate? It's troublesome procedure and out of frustration most companies turn to other countries for their labor needs. Here in India those ECR passport holder are running from pillar to post to find the way to get ECNR status for their passports. Many are getting cheated by agents.
Another point he made was, are Indians feeling prouder than earlier to be called Indians? In Arab land all Indians were 'hindi wahad' and their mindset have not changed.
We will feel proud when we do not turn to other countries for livelihood.

@Santosh, Udupi / Bahrain: I don't know what picnic you will have in Bahrain either with very little area, just cross the bridge and go to Khobar for a good picnic. BTW, the chicken pieces in that kabsa looks really nice and am sure it would be tasty too. I can see hunger in Modi's face in that picture when he see that kabsa.

That announcement by PM N. Modi is fantastic news. It will be a great help for Non-Resident Indians who face problems when they are outside the country for several reasons. It maybe big or small but someone can solve it with this 24/7 helpline. There are many Non-Resident Indians who are going through difficult times and they do not have much help. My hats off to PM Modi and hope many problems faced by Indians working abroad will be solved.

Modi should voice strongly against the atrocities and human right violations on Indian workers in Saudi and not bow down to the Saudi monarchs by letting our Indian workers be used as slaves by them.
