Mangaluru, Apr 14: State social welfare minister, Anjaneya, will be camping at Koraga Colony at Kerekadu near Kinnigoli for a day on Friday April 15. Anjaneya plans to attend to problems faced by Koragas living in this colony which falls under Padupanambur gram panchayat, during his short stay.
The one-room house of Baby Koraga, who lives here with her brother and four children, has been chosen for his stay. Local people belonging to Koraga community will be meeting the minister at this house to discuss their problems. For this purpose, the house of Baby Koraga has been painted and a modern western style wash room including a bath and toilet, is being built behind the house for the use of the minister.
The house of Baby now wears a new look with new oven, electrical wiring, portico etc. It is learnt that Baby lost her husband, Vaman, a few years ago, after which she approached government offices with request for transferring land held in his name to her. She earns her livelihood by weaving baskets. It is said that her land transfer application, which was in limbo for long, started to move quickly after her house was chosen for the minister's village stay programme. The records were transferred to her name within a day by the concerned office. In addition, 15 other families, who were awaiting land records since decades, will be receiving the title deeds, it is gathered. The proposed visit of the minister has changed the life of the residents of this colony.
The minister's food requirements are also being attended to by Baby and some of her neighbours, who have been told about his preferences.
