Mangaluru: Baliga murder - Prof Nayak lashes out right-wing outfits, MP, Congress leaders

Mangaluru, Apr 15: "If a cow had been murdered in the place of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga, Mangaluru would have faced riots," said Prof Narendra Nayak, national president of Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations.

He was addressing a dharna staged in front of the DC's office here on Friday April 15 to urge the state government to nab all the accused in the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga that took place on March 21. The protest was organized by 'Deshapremi Sanghatanegala Okkuta'.

Lashing out at right-wing outfits, Prof Nayak said, "It has been almost a month since the murder of Vinayak Baliga. None of the the activists of the right-wing outfits have raised their voice even though a Hindu was murdered. This indicates that the people associated with these outfits must have murdered Vinayak Baliga. They have the guts to attack couples but not to speak against this murder. If a cow had been murdered in the place of Vinayak Baliga, they would have come to streets and created riots in the city.

"Where is the MP (Nalin Kumar Kateel) of the district? It been a month, but the MP has still not visited Baliga's house. Baliga was a dedicated BJP worker and he had even worked for Nalin Kumar's victory. But Nalin has not said even a word of sympathy to Baliga's family.

"Except health minister U T Khader, none of the ministers have spoken against the absconding accused in the case. I feel all of them are associated with the absconding murderers. MLA J R Lobo visited Baliga's house and fooled us with crocodile tears. But even he has not spoken against the murderers," he claimed.

"Congress leader Janardhan Poojary has time to call press conferences and speak about each and everything. Even though his party is ruling the state, he does not have the time to speak for Baliga's family and urge for the arrest of the absconding accused," he added.

Prof Nayak further said, "Baliga had filed RTI petitions against more than a thousand buildings as they have been constructed illegally. He had filed a petition against Sharada Vidyalaya school building and the hearing was scheduled for March 24 in the MCC premises and he was murdered on March 21. He always objected the loot of assets in Shree Venkataramana Temple at Car Street. The ones who have looted the temple assets are behind his murder. "

Addressing all the people of the city, he said, "Even though it has been a month, people of the city have been keeping quiet. When our neighbour's house is burning we keep quiet stating it is his house. When the same fires engulfs our house, we say that none of the neighbours came to help us. Yesterday Baliga was murdered. Tomorrow it could be me, and tomorrow it could be any one of us.
"Baliga was murdered for raising his voice for a cause. Tomorrow any one of us could be murdered even though we are quiet like Gandhiji's three monkeys. Follow Swami Vivekananda's words and rise up to the cause of justice. All of us have to die one or the other day. It is better to die fighting than dying inch by inch everyday," he entreated.

DYFI district secretary Imtiaz, Baliga's father Ramachandra Baliga, mother Jayanthi Baliga, corporator Dayanand Shetty, Somanath Nayak from Nagarika Seva Trust and others were present.

This shows if a BJP worker who talks about good things and voices against corruption in any institution, he will be finished by BJP followers themselves. So, Nalin k is not showing his face to the parents of Baliga. He wants only vote of public not the fate of a victim. Baliga is also a RSS worker, still not a single word from their officials. So, in future people should think whom they should vote ? Nalin visits all temples,RSS leaders and top Businessmen - not the ordinary bjp worker because, he at present he is handled well by some needy persons of BJP/RSS and some builders not the grass root level worker like Baliga..

Mangalore has given birth to many Human Rights Activists in the past and they are declining now due to various reasons. Hardly anyone stands for social justice in present generation in Mangalore. A dynamic young woman by name Vidya Dinker is also not in the news from recent past. Is it time that Mangalore need to outsource the Human Rights Activists?

Agree. It is just as pathetic to see the silence of a city, considered to be a bastion of educated populace. A sick murder of an innocent man , who is not politically connected is not even moved anyone except a few like Narendra Nayak. This is the problem with our middle class society, apathy.

The good Vs evil fight is an ongoing one and every religion stands with the good. Evil wins if there are no supporters for the good. Both Good and evil are within all of us. When we keep Quiet when injustice is happening around us- we allow the evil to pervade our society.

The bitterness felt by Professor Nayak is very clear. Is the silence due to those in higher circles in Mangalore have skeletons in their own cupboards? Are the parties scared that their dirty linen will be washed in the public?

The irony with our society is that there are so many places of worship in our city. Going by this one would would wonder that there are lots of people of good convenience(as opposed to guilty conscience) reside in Mangalore.

When we as a society turn a blind eye to the incidences in Mangalore- it is the evil that becomes stronger. This unifying principle of all religions of Good Vs Evil should be a wake up call to all of us to come out of our own segmented, tribal/clannish mentality to demand justice for Baliga by writing letters to :

    1. Local Corporator 2. Mayor 3. Police commissioner 4. DC 5. MLA 6. MLC, 7. MP.

We cannot and should not keep quiet. We need to get rid of Gomuka Vyagras of Mangalore.

Dear Prof. Nayak, you have mentioned about JR Lobo shedding Crocodile tears. Install a banner near PVS Circle with His Photo. Then check the result. MLA's are busy with cutting ribbons, laying foundation stones etc. So there is no time for them for good cause.
If this murder should have happened during Election time, every Corrupt Politician would be standing next to Baliga Gate in Kala Kunja.

mdsouza, understand your feelings towards Baliga's parents. So many people might have victimised like mr baliga. What happened in Sowjanya case? Have seen personally her parent's tears. We need to realise that our so called party elected leaders are always for higher class people. It is high time we vote our candidate not party candidate.

    Dear Dr Kamath,
I appreciate your views. That shows your your desire for true Justice.
You are not looking at politics here. It is first time in our district the Congress party has joined with BJP. It shows no ethics, no nyaya. Only Power. Wish we get a independent MLA next time. Vidya Dinakar or Prof Nayak. Voters, please remember and judge what our elected officials did when we need them. All have shown their true colours and showed us how incompetent and scary they are.
Lord Venkataramana is watching. He does not need time to deliver the justice. Every time I see Mr Baliga's parents photo I understand how cruel our politicians are. If Mr Baliga was their son or brother how they would have felt.

Today our neighbors house is in fire, fire will spread to our house if it is not contained in time.
When Hitler was killing all Jews, Catholics, Baptists and other Christian denominations kept quite and ignored untill he came after them.

If i am not mistaken.., it appears that the Baliga murder case result in deep division among the mighty & powerful GSB community of the coastal district of m'lore & udupi..., let us wait & see where it will heading to.., all b'coz of what for ...???

Where is the moral & ethical standing (I only hope it is not FEKU) of the patrons of self proclaimed saviours of Hinduism & Hindus when it comes to RTI activist Mr Baliga...? Is Late Baliga not a revered Hindu...? or is he not a son of a Bharat Matha..? or Is he become anti-national the moment he try to expose the misdeeds of the high & mighty who happens to be the patrons & associated with parivar outfits...?

Hope the Mangaloreans watching patiently and take their time to answer these evil elements when their time come...?

We need more people like Prof. Narendra Nayak who have the courage to speak up for justice which is lacking in today's society. It is very clear that the politicians and influential people are behind this gruesome murder of Mr. Baliga. He had the courage to speak up against the irregularities in religious institutions of his own community.

I cannot understand why Mr.Janardhan Poojary is dragged into this...Baliga has been a BJP worker and all the suspect's in this murder have been from the Sangh parivar. Mangalore MP is Nalin Kumar for whom Baliga has worked day night to make him the MP is quite. Mr.Poojary has lost the election and he dosent have any powers. So it dosent make any sense for Mr.Poojary to take up this issue. Dont forget the murder suspects are much more powerful than Mr.Poojary. Its really funny at one end the people give the verdict to sit at home and when needed the same people ask to act.
Coming to Mr.Poojary's press conferences its just to guide the Congress party to give clean governance and 2018 will not be that easy for Congress party. His criticism are just to give good governance, It is in the interest of the Congress party. So Prof Nayak please don't compare his Press conferences to Baliga's Murders.

No serious investigations to nab culprits, and at least helping people who were dependent on them. really feel pity. People don't bring religion card on everything , humanity is important and every one has equal right no one has right to kill or assault or enforce anything to anyone. Hope he will get justice soon. People should show their power for useless worst politicians.
