Mangalore, Oct 13: The students of the Srinivas College of Hotel Management in collaboration with Vijayalakshmi Institute of Hospitality Sciences organized a Gujarathi Dance festival “RAAS GARBA- 07” as part of the traditional Navaratri celebrations at the Srinivas College campus in Mangalore on Friday October 12. 

A Srinivas Rao, vice-president of A Shama Rao Foundation presided over the inaugural function. 

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Krishnappa Poojary, Commissioner, MCC spoke about the impact of festivals like Navaratri on institutions like Srinivas, were a large number of out-station students are studying. He opined that this was one occasion when members of the community gather together to celebrate this festival which signifies victory of good over evil.  

The cultural programme started with a traditional aarti of Goddess Durga. The audience mostly comprised of Gujarati students and Gujarati families residing in Mangalore. The entire function was highly colourful, with the customs, traditions and costumes of Gujarat in full display. Moreover it did greatly help the local community to understan the salient features of the Gujarathi culture and tradition.

The occasion was also graced by Mitra S Rao, president and D Shashikala R Rao, secretary of Vijayalakshmi Education Trust respectively.
