Bengaluru, Apr 23: It has come to light that a passenger, originally from Manipal, was assaulted by the bus staff on Friday, April 22 in Bengaluru.
Vivek Shetty, a software engineer working at Infosys residing at NCO Town, Electronic city in Bengaluru was allegedly attacked by staff of Durgamba bus plying from Bengaluru to Manipal at Sheshadripuram.
As per the details in the complaint filed at Sheshadripuram police station, Vivek was allotted seat no 10 in a bus owned by Durgamba travels to travel from Bengaluru to Manipal on Friday night. When Vivek Shetty entered the bus take the allotted seat at around 9.30 pm, he was told to occupy another seat. When Vivek did not agree and demanded the allotted seat, the driver and cleaner of the bus attacked him. Vivek asked them only to talk but not to attack him, yet they continued beating him up.
An auto driver took Vivek, who was bleeding in the nose, to the Sheshadripuram police station. The bus moved ahead leaving Vivek. He complained to the police and then went to Apollo hospital to take treatment for the injury. After the treatment he came to his house as he could not go to Manipal to attend the family function.
Before the attack started, Vivek was waiting at Electronic city bus stop for Durgamba bus which was supposed to collect him at 7.15 pm. As the bus did not come, Vivek phoned the bus office. They told him to contact the bus staff. The bus staff told him that the bus was at Madiwala Cross. When Vivek said he would come there, they asked him to come to Sheshadripuram. The bus staff told him that the bus does not go to Majestic which would have been easier for Vivek to reach. Yet Vivek agreed to come to Sheshadripuram by paying Rs 800 for the taxi as he was desperate to reach Manipal. But at last when he reached the spot to catch the bus, he was beaten up.
The bus driver and conductor are yet to be interrogated.
