Mangaluru, Apr 27: A house has been completely destroyed as a result of a gas cylinder explosion at Santhyaguthu village in Kinya near Ullal. The total loss has been estimated at Rs 20 lac.

The unfortunate event took place at the house of Ganesh Shetty on the late night of Monday, April 25. But fortunately there was no casualty as all the occupants of the house including the guests had gone for a feast of local deity.

When the neighbours of Ganesh Shetty heard the sound at the house, they immediately phoned him. He rushed to the spot in an auto rickshaw to find the house burning. The people gathered tried their best to extinguish the fire by pouring water. But the fire was too big to put off. The fire brigade failed to reach the place as there was no enough wide road for the vehicle. Ornaments, cash, areca nut and electronic items from the house had turned into ashes. The roof of the house has fallen off.

A case stands registered at Ullal police station. Kinya gram panchayat vice president Siraj Kinya visited the place with other gram panchayat officials and said efforts will be made to get Rs 1.5 lac sanctioned under Basava Kalyana programmed to rebuild the house. Bunts welfare association people also visited the place.

Thank God they are safe. But engineering is bad. Gas cylinder should be place outside the house and connected through gas pipe line. Also road should be wide for fire brigade access. These all simple engineering features already used in Europe, America and Japan.

Its unfortunate that the house destroyed and fortunately no one was there.
If there was no one inside and the house destroyed due to gas cylinder who lit the gas and how do we conclude its due to gas cylinder when everything is destroyed

Thank God all the occupants were out and were saved miraculously.
I am surprised how the gas cylinder got burst or exploded by itself? If at all there was gas leakage or the stove nobs were kept open only the gas would have gone out and the accidental fire or explosion should have taken place only if someone tried to ignite a spark. Just trying to come to fair conclusion and not doing investigative job. sorry.

We sad incident. Thank god precious life's got saved by the grace of god. Ganesh shetty must have worked all his life to get this house done, but the fire has destroyed it. Hope we all can help him to get his small house rebuilt. Investigations should be done as to check how did the cylinder bursted out. Speically during summer time it is very risky.

Giving compensation is a fantastic thing, but try to find out the reasons for explosion. It was purely luck that nobody was there inside the house. One of the reasons may be due to direct falling of sunrays over the cylinder and hot temperature sarounding must had caused expansion of gas volume and exploded.

    Very unfortunate incident.
If there is a defect in the small washer under the regulator then gas will leak provided regulator is on.
Please do not forget to turn off regulator while leaving home.
I think gas company has insurance of 5lac for each gas connection. Hope they will pay for this damage very swiftly.
