Udupi, Apr 28: A person, who was injured in a rare type of fire accident, died after succumbing to injuries at Manipal hospital on Wednesday, April 27.
The fire accident had taken place at Agumbe on April 21. Poornaraj Ganiga (31) is the person deceased.

Poornaraj from Udyavar worked at Sringeri as a welder. He was going to Sringeri by his bike when the tragic accident took place. The petrol got finished on the way. Poornaraj brought petrol in a bottle from a petrol bunk and started pouring into the fuel tank while he held a torch light in another hand. Suddenly the fire erupted. Poornaraj, who was burning with fire, was taken to a nearby hospital and then to Manipal hospital.

Poornaraj was the sole bread winner in the family. His father, famous Yakshagana artist, Jayakumar Udyavar is sick. His mother Varija is Udyavar gram panchayat member. His other siblings are two sisters. He had married recently and leaves behind his wife and 8 month old child. The family is so poor that the hospital bills were paid with the help of loans and help from well-wishers.
