Mumbai, Oct 17: K T Venugopal, eminent journalist, story writer, released special edition of “Akshaya’ monthly bulletin of Billava Association here at a function held at Billava Bhavan Auditorium at Santacruz (E) on Monday October 15.
“Journalists ought to be committed to authentic reporting without being lured by any gains. The reports should express the strength of the reporter. Journalists have the significant role to play in the happenings of the society. The reports, articles, columns, poetry are essential for the survival of any publication. The advertisements serve as vitamins. It would not be possible to publish any publication without the patronage of advertisements in the existing circumstances. However, it should not be glorified in all the pages,” said Venugopal.
‘Akshaya’, a colour magazine has been published with interesting material, during my term. The editorial column by M B Kukyan significantly sheds light on the happenings in the society. Although, it was developed solely for the community, it has grown as a monthly bulletin. The writers of all community can contribute for the ‘Akshaya’ based on ideology of Billava spiritual leader Narayana Guru. Though the Billava Association has faced numerous of difficulties to reach the present stage in the last 75 years, its activities have not faced any setbacks, said Jaya Suvarna, in his presidential address.
The programme began with the hymn of children. Association honorary chief secretary Nityanand D Kotian welcomed and delivered introductory address.
