Mangalore: Durga Puja Celebrations bring Bengalis Together in City

Mangalore, Oct 18: The entire coastal belt here is witness to the grand Dasara celebration that is being held in full swing now. The Bengalis who had migrated to the city for various reasons, are also busy celebrating Durga Puja alongwith Dasara festivities at Palke Krishna Achar Hall, in Ballalbag here.
The said hall has been specially decorated with colourful lights. At the same time, the Goddess Kali and Durga has been consecrated at the hall and adorned attractively. Speaking to TVdaijiworld, A K Kanrar, one of the organizers of Durga Puja, said that, for the last 24 years they have been organizing Durga Puja and Dasara in the city. About 100 Bengali families who are residing in the city are actively participating in this celebration, he informed.
Gautam Mahata, treasurer of Sri Durga Puja and Dasara Celebration Committee, said that though Durga Puja is the grand festival of West Bengal, this festival would be celebrated by all irrespective of one's religion.
