Sullia, May 18: In a tragic incident a mother has jumped into Payaswini river with three of her children and committed suicide on Tuesday evening, May 17.
Ajjavara grama Mulya Atlooru resident Raviraj’s wife Kusuma (33) and their children Likita(5), Rakshita(3) and Srajan(2) are the deceased.
Kusuma is the resident of Kerala border area Bandadka. Likita was a student of LKG in a private school at Sullia. Kusuma was a housewife.
Raviraj was employed as an electrician in a private college at Sullia. Raviraj had gone to Sullia for work in the morning. The house people were sleeping after lunch in the afternoon. Kusuma’s father in law was peeling areca nuts. Being undivided family, the father in law, brother in law, mother in law and children were staying together.
Kusuma said that she was going to the farm at about 2.30 pm and went out with her children carrying a grass cutting knife. She committed suicide by jumping into a 3 feet deep pit at Payswini river, Atlooru with three of her children.
The house people noticing that Kusuma and the children were missing started searching for them. Meanwhile the daughter of Raviraj’s uncle saw the child floating in the pit and informed her father Parameshwara. Though all the four were lifted up, they had died by then.
Kusuma in the morning had gone to Bhajana Mandir which is 1 kilometre away from their house. There was silence in the area in the evening, due to the incident. The cries of the family people were heart rendering. Hundreds of people had gathered at the place.
The dead bodies are kept in KVG hospital morgue for post mortem. Police circle inspector Krishnayya, station inspector Chandrashekar and Revenue officials arrived and conducted investigation.
