Udupi, Oct 30: The National Highway bundh call given by the ‘Save National Highway Committee’ has received immense support in the district here on Tuesday October 30. The agitators succeeded in blocking the National Highway in many parts of the district.

A magic show was organized on the highway at Katapadi, jointly in collaboration with the local organizations and Shankarpura Rotary Club, on Tuesday morning. However, the police team headed by SP in-charge Labhu Ram did not allow the magic show to be conducted on the road. This resulted in a hot debate ensuing between the agitators and police on the occasion. Finally it was decided to shift the magic show to Katapadi town.

In addition to this, a tug-of-war competition was held on the highway near Kaup circle between the associations of Kaup Jaycees and Rotary club. The agitators headed by Kaup Leeladhar Shetty blocked highway here.

Taluk panchayat members Arun Shetty Padur, Ramesh Hegde Kalya, Jagadish Acharya Kaup, Kaup block former president Gangadhar Suvarna, Udupi district BJP fishermen forum president convener Vijay Karkera, Kaup rickshaw owners and drivers, taxi and tempo drivers were present on this occasion.

In places like Pangala, Uchila, Muloor, Karavali by-pass, Kallianpur Santhekatte different sports like volleyball, kabaddi, cricket, and local games like ‘goliyata (marble game)’, ‘lagori’, ‘kutti donne’ etc were held on the highways, all done in an endeavour to highlight and condemn the negligence of the highway officials towards National Highway 17.

Appreciate people involved in the protest but reality is this bandh is not going to make any damn difference. The people responsible for providing the basic facilities(in a civilized socity) to citizons are MP's, MLA's and beaurocrates So people should thrash them first for these guys irresponsibilities, irrespctive of their party or cast.Unless otherwise nothing is going to change.

The protests were untimely. The PWD authorities should have been given time upto December 2007 to set right the things. The rainy season has ended and naturally it requires some time to repair the road the protests culture of Kasaragod is stretching to placss like Udupi and Kundapur. But Mangaloreans are intelligent they did not support the bundh the protesters could have shown some national interest if they had filled up a few potholes as a mark of dedication to the countryp the playing of cricket will not solve the problem.

The PWD should be empowered to levy fine on heavy vehicles which carry more than the permitted loads the powers vested to RTO and police should be curbed as they have proved to be useless to check the menace the responsibilty of road maintenance is with PWD and hence they are the owners of roads and hence they know the damage being caused by vehicles which carry more than the capacity loads LET PWD BE AUTHORISED TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE OFFFENDING VEHCILE OWNERS AND NOT THE CORRUPT POLICE AND RTO. The latter authorities are puppets in the hands of the mafia and hence cannot deliver. Let wisdom prevail upon all citizens and politicians and save the Country.

Our politicians are not only corrupt, but they are also most insensitive to the needs of the ordinary citizens. Heavy taxes they collect, only to fill their bellies and their near and dear ones. They are least bothered about the welfare of the state, district or taluks.

May God enlighten these corrupt and rotten politicians to work for the common good. Many of the roads, including some national highways, do not exist in our state of Karnataka and that is because of our corrupt politicians and bureaucrats - the money eaters.

Where are those People who comes and begs for votes. They are not accountable for this ?. Looking at this no party got right to contest for election in Udupi region. At least once people should teach lesson for political leaders by boycoting the votes both parlement and assembly. If not this will continue and enjoy with whatever happening around you.

great job done. atleast the govt shall wake up. dont give it a political colour. all the citizens should get together and fight the evil . no caste or religion be brought in between, all fight for one cause. its high time we come to the roads . coastal southern karnataka is the neglected part of karnataka govt. they take it for granted our generosity and goodwill.

Media specially daiji world is taking keen intrest in uncovering the real fate of glorious dk and the adjoining districts. also like to mention that a big event took place in puttur . inaguration of BUNTS BHAWANA - Sri M SundarRam Shetty Memorial Hall, with the blessings of the society. why dont you cover such programmes. we staying outside india rely on daiji to have a glimpse of such events which we cannot witness. Keep it up daiji team and hats off to Walter Nandalike. You are doing great man. Take care. CHEEEEEEEEEEEERS!
