Mangalore, Oct 31: The civic authorities evicted petty shops located near service bus stand on Wednesday October 31. This drive followed the steps undertaken to evict vendors who had their shops on footpaths at State Bank, a couple of months ago.
The civic authorities undertook the demolition drive all unannounced, without serving verbal or written notice. This caught the vendors unaware and they did not have any chance either to protest or resist.
In spite of eviction drive undertaken by civic authorities in the past, the street vendors were back in business with make-shift arrangements, in the same place. Moreover this time, the civic authorities have undertaken eviction drive on petty shops located near service bus terminal. Although, the petty shop keepers pleaded the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officers to save their petty shops from the wrath of demolition, the officers went on with their duty.
