Mangalore: Colourful Rajyotsva Celebrations sans Ministers, Promises held

Mangalore, Nov 1: No minister, no assurances, no promises and no plans for the district this time around. Indeed, a special feature of the Kannada ‘Rajyotsava’ event held this year. Owing to presidents’ rule in the state, the district commissioner M Maheshwar Rao was the top-ranking official of the hierarchy in the district at the Kannada Rajyotsava, held here at the Nehru Maidan on Thursday November 1.
After hoisting the flag, DC Maheshwar Rao received the guard of honour from KSRP, DAR, civil police, traffic police, Home guards, NCC army seniors, air force wing seniors, army juniors, scouts & guides, air wing juniors, seva dal and the police band.
In his ‘Rajyotsava’ message, the DC informed that Karnataka state has more than two thousand years of history. The achievements of the state in the past 50 years in various fields like education, economy, cultural and social field is considerable indeed, he lauded.
Speaking about the immense progress made by Dakshina Kannada district, he pointed out that the district has achieved a lot, especially in the educational, medical, para-medical and the engineering spheres. The district today has broad gauge railway lines, international airport, port, national highways and big industries. At the same time, he made an ardent plea to all residents of the district to make their district a role model for others to follow.
Later in the programme, 30 district Rajyotsava awardees including journalists Ravindra Shetty and Hillary Crasta were honoured by the district administration with the award. The students of Lourdes Central School presented some cultural programmes after the stage shows. Earlier, a colourful Rajyotsava procession was taken out from Bunts Hostel to Nehru Maidan.
Western range IGP A M Prasad, SP Satishkumar, MLAs Abhayachandra Jain, Yogish Bhat and U T Khader, Zilla panchayat member K P Sucharita Shetty and others were present on the occasion.
